The Legend of Lake Toba

Once upon the time , there was a man who lived around a narrow valley of Toba hill . He was a fisherman . Once , he found a big fish in his bamboo rattan fish trap and it cnge his life . He had naver caught such a big fish before . It was an extraordinary one .

Then he put it in his hut and went out to think about now to cook it in a special way . He went back to the hut . To his surprise , the fish had turned into a beautiful . Then , the man fell in love with the princess . He then proposed her . He asked her : “Would you be my wife ?” she nodded romantically . Then , the man was very happy . The princesssaid said that she would marry him but only on one condition . He should never tell anybody that she had been a fish . The managreed . She told him that if he broke his promise there would be a disaster . Finally , they lived happily and harmoniously with daughter

After the daughter grew up , her mother always asked her to take her father’s lunch to him when he was out working in the field . Unfortunately , she was very greedy . Once , she ate all the food that should have been given to her father , He was very angry when he saw her eating all his food in the street . He shouted at her : “You are rebellious.” You are really are the offspring or a fish .” The princess heard that and felt that he he had broken their promise . She then asked her daughter to go to the hill because there would be a disaster . Then . the princess knelt and prayed to God . After she had been praying for one minute there was an earthquake . A heavy rain fell down on the ground . The princess turned into a stone . Their daughter wandered everywhere . The place turned into Lake Toba and the hill turned into Samosir Island .

Tanah lot

Tanah lot is a famous rock formation off the Indonesian island of bali . it means ”land in the middle of the sea “ in Balinese language . there lie two hindus temples . one is on top of a big rock and the other is on top of a cliff . tanah lot temple is a part of sad kahyangan temple seven sea temples which are said to be the joints of bali island . it is the place to worship the gods , guardians of the sea .

Located in beraban about 13 kms west of tabanan and about 20 kms from denpasar . the temple is one seven sea temples around the Balinese coest . it was said that each of the sea temples was to be within eyesight of the next so that they formed a chain along the south – western coast .

Tanah lot is said to be the work of the 15^th century priest nirartha the eanah lot temple was then built and has been an important part of Balinese mythological history of centuries . at the base of the rocky island , poisonous sea snakes are believe to guard the temple from evil spirits and intruders . there is said to be one giant snake which also protects the temple . it is believed that this snake was created from niartha’s scraf when he established the big rock . tanah lot is well know for its sunset view . lots of tourists come in the afternoon to see the beautiful sunset view .

In 1980 the temple’s rock face was starting to crumble and the area around and inside the temple started to become dangerous . the Japanese government then provided a loan to the Indonesia government to conserve the historic temple and other beach locations around the island of bali . as a result , over one third of the rock which can be seen is artificial rock created under the Japanese upgrade works .

Prambanan Temple

The legend says that a powerful young man named Bandung Bondowoso wanted to marry Roro Jonggrang , King Boko’s daughter , but she did not love him . She would accept him on one condition . She would marry him if Bandung Bondowoso could build a thousand temples just in one night for her .

Because he had power , Bandung Bondowoso almost managed to build the temples . Roro Jonggrang tried to prevent him from completing the work . She made the maidens who lived in the village of the east temples hay and pound rice as if the dawn had come and the sun would soon rise .

When the cock began to crow , all the supernatural powers left the scene because they thought it was already dawn . Bandung Bondowoso could not control his anger . He then cursed Roro Jonggrang into a ststue that completed the Prambanan Temple .
